“All that we see or seem, is but a dream within a dream!”

Welcome:

Spirits of both the paranormal and beverage varieties will once again haunt the Duncan LittleCreek Gallery with Ghost Light Productions’ annual Poe & Pints! Frank L. Sawyer brings you the Fall event not to miss! Frank first conceived of the project in 2014. Said Sawyer, “I wanted to create an unique event for the community. I have always been a Poe fan, so the idea of combining craft beers with Poe’s work, sounded right.” Working with DLC Managing Partner Jennifer Anderson, and local artists John Wright, Derek Burwell, and Erika Patrick, the team fleshed the project out. It’s just not October without what the Elko Daily Free Press called, “an evening of refreshingly original entertainment." We look forward to having you as our guest!

Let the melancholy and long since departed Edgar Allan Poe welcome you into his parlor. Literary selections for this year include The Tell-Tale Heart, A Dream Within a Dream, and the classic The Raven among others. This year we also feature two guest authors. We will present H.P. Lovecraft’s From Beyond and local playwright Josh Webster’s Care of a Murder. Funds raised during Poe & Pints help support GLP’s commitment to youth and adult theater programming, instruction, education, and events.

Boston-born in 1809, Edgar Allan Poe may have been the nation’s first famous writer and poet. Poe wrote eerie, grim, and cryptic tales exemplified in his 1839 short story The Fall of the House of Usher, the 1843 short story The Tell-Tale Heart, and his immediately successful 1845 poem, The Raven. Poe was one of the earliest authors of the short story, considered the inventor of detective fiction, and served as an important contributor to the new genres of horror and science fiction. Poe’s death, at the age of 40, in Baltimore on October 7, 1849, is stoked with mystery. He vanished on his way home and was later discovered in a delusional state, muttering nonsense, and wearing clothing that was most likely not his own. Poe continues to influence literature and pop-culture around the world even today.

Howard Phillips Lovecraft was an American author who achieved posthumous fame through his influential works of horror fiction. Virtually unknown and only published in pulp magazines before he died in poverty, he is now regarded as one of the most significant 20th-century authors in his genre. Lovecraft was born in Providence, Rhode Island, in 1890, where he spent most of his life. Among his most celebrated tales is The Call of Cthulhu, canonical to the Cthulhu Mythos. Never able to support himself from earnings as author and editor, Lovecraft saw commercial success increasingly elude him. He died at the age of 46.

Josh Webster writes short fiction, plays and a poorly self-illustrated webcomic. He recently celebrated the world premiere of his first full-length play, Incredible Stories and Other Back Issues, with the Great Basin College Theatre Department this past June. He also teaches creative writing, composition, literature, and a variety of other courses under the heading of English at Great Basin College in Pahrump.
